I'm looking for the following books and was wondering if anyone had them on their list of books ready to be passed on...

Thanks so much.  x-posted to one of the chick lit groups.

I swear, this is the longest week ever.

Card for this week

And the winner is the NINE OF WANDS. The sink is fixed, but dripping, I found a freezer, but it's expensive, the computer died, but can be fixed for a ton of money, so I might end up buying a new one. But hey-ho, whatever comes next, I plan to whack it over the head with that pesky wand I am holding.

Computer repair guy called back. The internal power adaptor in my CPU (Netzteil in German???) got fried and that in turn short circuited my mainboard and other bits an bobs. To replace what's fried and get it all going again would cost me 200 Euros upwards.

I told him what I would want from my computer -- excellent graphics card, fast processor, lots of room, big cache, yadda-yadda, all the stuff you need for a good gaming computer -- and he will call me back to tell me what that would cost to custom-build for me. He could apparently move my hard drive into the new machine, so at first glance it would be the same, with all my data, just faster and better all around.... Probably would cost me twice the repair cost, but I'd rather spend that than have a fixed machine that is not at a good standard anymore. Especially now that I splashed out for a new game last night, that is brand new and would probably not even run properly anymore on my current machine.

Ok, ok, I know I said I would go for a Mac next, so sue me!

Going home now, I am starving...

I QUIT!

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 11:53 AM
I put my notice in today. I was nice about it. So was he (the boss). But all day long he's had the marketing manager in his office with the door closed. Apparently, they are bringing back the designer who quit previously to fill in...the marketing manager does not know indesign and i am teaching her as we finalize the 3 catalogs we have been working on concurrently.

My boss hasn't spoken to me since.

But it's all good, cause I'm leaving in about 2 weeks.

Ouroboros

As I was walking in the evening heat the other day, a parasol in one hand and a coffee in the other, I stopped suddenly on a busy road with cars whooshing past me and bringing with them the vengeful breezes of exhaust, dust, and tar.

Your comments would be appreciated on this thread

(My initial post:
Home page - could the money bit be less prominent, please?
If I were coming to the site for the first time, I think I'd be somewhat put off by the very prominent banner advertising the Members Plus deals. Is it possible to have this only showing when people are logged in? Or at least to have it lower down the page, so it isn't the first thing that hits someone when they come to the site.)

Even if you disagree, your comments would be welcome - I'd like to keep the thread active enough to get some chance of a response from the Powers That Be!

Sorting through my to-do-list

I joined one of the fitness courses here at the company, Spinal-Fit for Beginners. I have an appaling posture, so this sounded like the best choice. Plus it's for free! I was contemplating the Jogging for Beginners, but end of September doesn't sound like the season I want to start something like this. Too wet.

I am contemplating to do some other course outside of work, to meet some people. Have to check the options for evening classes here in town. I've been meaning to freshen up on my French for years. Or perhaps golf or riding lessons? To play golf is still insanely expensive though in Germany. But yet again the company made some special deals with golf clubs here in the area....

After work last night I dropped off my CPU, I will hear today or tomorrow if it is fixable. Fingers crossed. So once again limited Internet access! I have to use the Internet station at work tonight to write down the addresses for those 3 mooches I still have to send out...

My kitchen is home to a new 5-litre hot-water-boiler. Finally hot water! Although now the tap he installed with it is a bit strange. Slight dripping problem as well. Is it me?

Went to the electronics store as well. A small freezer will put me out by 130 Euros and a printer/scanner another 100 Euros. Adding a fax to that is out, because it would more than double the price and I really don't fax that often. Ended up buying three PC-games, argh!

Still haven't finished reading Twilight, as my sister-in-law called to say hello and we ended up yacking away on the phone for over an hour!

Crystal Clearing

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 1:57 AM
Color of the day: Yellow
Incense of the day: Lavender

Crystals are another precious gift of Mother Earth. It is not necessary to have a new crystal for every purpose or working. Crystals can be reprogrammed to new uses with just a bit of forethought and planning. When a particular working for which you have charged a crystal is completed, under a waning Moon, collect up the crystals no longer in use and thank them for their energy in your working. Clear them by first smudging them with sage and cedar smoke and then cleansing them in a salt water bath followed by a good rinsing in clear, running water. Place the cleared crystals in a windowsill where they can receive light from the Moon as she passes through her cycle. After a full Moon cycle, the crystals are once more ready to be charged with a new purpose and a new working.
